Welcome to Whatever Compiles, just a collection of media I consumed over the week that I think I would enjoy reading about as a Software Engineer. Ranging from great podcasts to something I am building, and sometimes a story.
Not much to talk about this week. Andrej Karpathy joined Anthropic, which has created comparisons to Kevin Durant. I am loving the comparisons with AI startups to NBA teams.

Here's what I read, listened to, and generally let distract me this week.
·Vibe coding and agentic engineering: Simon Willison on where vibe coding ends and agentic engineering begins.
· The Scott Wu Tapes (Cognition): Profile of the Devin founder. 3x gold medalist math olympiad, top competitive programmer, Harvard dropout. His childhood friends and math teammates collectively run or are close to the hottest companies in the valley. He also once beat Mang0 in Smash. Whole thing reads like a Netflix mini-doc waiting to happen.
· AI Frontier podcast episode: Best explainer I've heard on the current AI landscape, how the frontier gets pushed, and where the other players (DeepSeek, etc.) fit into the arms race for AGI.
· Joy and Curiosity #81 by Thorsten Ball Another great read with more fun links
· How are these models getting such low latency?: Great breakdown of Fast Mode and batching users for compute. Pair it with this Tensor explainer.
